My new puppy is coming in for an appointment what can I expect? Puppies come in several times over the first 6 months for a series of vaccines and exams. Depending on your puppy’s age, the appointments can vary slightly. At 8 weeks: - A complete exam (nose to tail) to be sure everything looks, feels, and sounds the way it’s supposed to - Weight check - A fecal analysis to check for any intestinal parasites - Begin a Distemper (DHPP) Vaccine series (1st of 3) - Discuss any questions or concerns, including general puppy care and training - Dispense Interceptor for heartworm prevention - Dispense Vectra 3D for flea and tick prevention - Begin de-worming protocol At 12 weeks: - A complete exam: It is important to have a full exam every four weeks as our puppies grow because the body is growing and developing so rapidly a concern may arise in a short period of time. - Weight check - Distemper (DHPP) Vaccine (2nd of 3) - Lyme Vaccine (1st of 2) - Pick up more Interceptor and Vectra 3D - Discuss home dental care - Continue de-worming series At 14 weeks: - Visit with a technician only - Weight check - Lyme Vaccine (2nd of 2) - Answer any puppy questions (housebreaking, training, feeding, etc.) - Continue de-worming series (if still needed) At 16 weeks: - Complete exam - Weight check - Final Distemper (DHPP) Vaccine (3rd of 3) - Rabies Vaccine - Discuss spay/neuter (to be scheduled in 4-8weeks) - Discuss Microchipping - Dispense any additional needed preventions |
